Definitions of Ci, Ci Theory, and Discipline of Ci Theory
Shi Yidui
This thesis separately defines and compares three basic terms in the literature field: Ci, Ci Theory and the Discipline of Ci Theory. It is found that first originated in Tang Dynasty, with Convivial Music as its expression pattern, Ci is a unique form of Chinese poetry. Ci Theory, however, is a research especially on Ci. Found by Wang Guowei, developed by Long Yusheng and his peers, Ci Theory evolves into a systematic study. Even from the beginning Ci theory came hand in hand with Ci, the study of Ci Thoery has not become a discipline till modern time, to which Xia Chengtao, Tang Guizhang, Long Yusheng, Zhan Antai(Known as Four Masters in Ci field) contributed a lot.

Fang Rixi
While writing lyrics in a prose style, Xin Qiji used many techniques like narrative, description, comment, reasoning. Unlike proses which are totally free of rhyme, his lyrics still keep a precise rhyme. This indicates that these lyrics are combinations of poetic charms and prosaic fluencies. The changes and breakthroughs highlight his works.

Ye Ye

Even scholars who are not researching on Ming Ci, were still involved in discussing these phases slightly, because of their attentions on the whole history of Ci literature. Along with the study arisen in the past ten years, the discussion of phases of Ci in Ming Dynasty gradually reached its high tide. In such a positive situation, the author would propose some thinking and methods, like “limited with region’’ and “limited with year”, “phase principle" and "phase reason", “shape division” and “chain division”, etc. In this foundation, proposing new phases of Ci in Ming Dynasty——"six divisions", which will be divided into six times: Transition, Silence, Brewing, Renaissance, Climax and Flourishing.

Review of Ci Poetry Comments in Guangling in Early Qing Dynasty
Li Youqiang
Ci Poetry comments in Guangling, which mainly focus on two Ci collection books of Yi Sheng Chu Ji and Guo Chao Ming Jia Shi Yu, can be used to trace back to composition background, composition date and whom to write for etc. Based on Yi Sheng Chu Ji, Ci Poetry comments in Guo Chao Ming Jia Shi Yu made many adjustments in the content and writer’s names. The change of writer’s names in Li Nong Ci, Yan Lu Ci and Yan Bo Ci shouldn’t be simplified as the cult of celebrity. The dynamic change of Ci Poetry comments, from exclusiveness to inclusiveness, can be found in the later Guangling Ci Poetry composition center.

A Study of Kuang Zhouyi’s Yumei houci and his Disagreements with Zheng Wenzhou
TSUI Wai
The works of the “Four Masters of Ci”, Wang Pengyun, Zheng Wenzhou, Zhu Zumou and Kuang Zhouyi represent the highest achievement of the late Qing ci poetry. Initially, they were close friends and used to write, criticize, collate and publish ci poetry together. In 1904, however, Zheng and Kuang, because of a disagreement on Kuang’s Yumei houci, argued fiercely and never again spoke to each other. This article analyzes Yumei houci, a collection Kuang wrote for his most beloved mistress. I focus on its “erotic” nature, the centre of the whole argument, and evaluate Kuang’s unique views of “erotic” poetry with reference to both his writing and criticisms.

Researches on the Poetic Imagery Theory of Qiao Dazhuang
Huang Kunyao
In the critical work Ci Criticism in Mortal World, Wang Guowei First put forward the Poetic Imagery Theory. Afterwards, Qiao Dazhuang also pointed out that “Combination of time and scene makes Poetic Imagery”. What is highly valued was that he also enlarged this theory with exploration of Zhou Bangyan’s lyrics. His statements on Poetic Imagery were more detailed, profound, and practical when considered as an explanation for writing activities. Qiao Dazhuang even revealed the Techniques of Writing in Northern Song Dynasty: he respectively talked about Harmonization of feeling and scene, Couplet, Connection, Transition which brought a great tension to the poetic imagery of every lyric.

Pan Shuxian
The Collection of Speculativeness on Ci Study (2011 edition, published by People's Publishing House), written by Professor Ou Mingjun, focuses on the deep analysis of theories on Ci study and the introspection of previous researches on Ci study. It's worth mentioning that the author pays attention to the theory speculation. His accounts cover various aspects of the system of Ci study with many revisions of the misinterpretations about relevant works, revealing the historical truths which have been shadowed before. Abounded in breakthroughs of viewpoints, perspectives and literature materials, the book presents the original and authentic outlook of the Ci history and the Ci study. The book contains great innovative viewpoints as some academic namings are presented, such as meta-criticism, derivative criticism, meta-categories, subordinate categories and ratification. Furthermore, problematic awareness can be seen throughout the book, which to a large extent, shows the great speculativeness of the author.
