Abstract The purpose of this article is to comb and comment on scenery lyrics in Tang and Song dynasties. The findings showed that even though lyrics came into being in urban area, it was Hua-jian Group who first wrote lyrics about city views. Liu Yong was the first writer composing a large number of lyrics. Zhou Bangyan made a breakthrough by using exquisite words in his lyrics about urban scenes. Xin Qiji also showed his bold and unconstrained features in lyrics singing of cities. Jiang Kui, later on, wrote scenery lyrics in an elegant and strong style. Wu Wenying was the last poet in this field. He used bright-colored words and described urban views more vividly, which implied the country destruction.
